SYNCHRO PETITION

Dear Members,

I am sure many of you are aware of the devastating cuts Synchro have recently been given by UK Sport. To clarify, UK Sport funds the Elite programmes in the country which for Synchro has included a squad of 9-12 full time athletes training in Aldershot and competing at European, World and Olympic Level for the past seven years. It also included Junior funding to compete at elite international events.

The funding cut plans to eliminate this structure which is highly disappointing for the sport after achieving every target set out by UK Sport.

Please can you follow the link below to register a vote against the decision made to by UK Sport.

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/60290

I would also like to reassure you that the funding in place for the Leeds Beacon Programme, Leeds City Council Training Scheme, for my role of Full Time Development Coach, and for the new role we hope to advertise soon of the Part Time Development Coach are in a separate funding stream with Sport England. Sport England focuses on participation and on developing athletes up to Elite Level where UK Sport funding then takes over. The England Talent programmes with the ASA are also separate to this funding and these programmes which develop athletes age 10-18 currently will continue. British Swimming are hoping to appeal the decision by UK Sport and will be working out a strategy for the future.

A large part of my role working with the Clubs and Council in Leeds is to ensure that the Leeds programme goes from strength to strength and is able to continue at current levels of service in the future. Our ambition is to continue to provide children in Leeds with the opportunity to take part in synchronised swimming and to reach their potential in the sport. We have high targets set to increase participation in the clubs and lessons, and improving our National ranking, to ensure that this work is sustained. I am sure as parents and members of the training scheme and the clubs that you will support this work. If you are interested in helping with this in any way, by being on the committee or are interested in being a coach/ supporting development in schools/ advertising please let our Club Secretary Jo Boulter know secretary@synchroleeds.org

Finally if…..

Yo   You  believe that Women's sport deserves recognition and support

Ø     You understand and value the ethics provided by Team sport

Ø     You were enthralled by the variety demonstrated at London 2012

Ø     Your view of Olympic Legacy is to 'inspire the next generation' – not to shatter the dreams of an entire Sport

Ø     You believe that any minority Sport has a place within the UK's sporting future

Ø     You buy your lottery tickets and are bemused by some of the central decisions being made

Pl   then please sign the petition are share with others that do!

M   Many Thanks

S    Sarah Speers
