Update to medals

In a surprise to most of us, there was no medal awarded for figures.

I had left for the airport midway through medal ceremony, so although Rosie officially did finish 3rd, there was no BRONZE awarded on the day, so the final tally is;

2 GOLD
1 SILVER

Great results all round.

Final Medal Tally

Rosie and Jess' Silver is confirmed, so it's

2 GOLDS
1 SILVER
1 BRONZE

A truly great weekend.

IT'S GOLD for the FREE TEAM

Scratch the last entry,

The scores did not take into account figures and it's official, City of Leeds are Swedish Open Champions !!

They received their medals to the National Anthem !!

Well done girls.

Swedish Open - thanks go to...

This has been a great weekend for the club,

Big thanks to the following present at the competition;

Sarah Speers - Head Coach
Jane Bray - Organiser
Jo Knight - Team Manager
Chaperones - Marie-Claire, Linda Dewhirst, Sue Barrington
In addition Clare Ranson, not officially chaperone, but helped out with hair etc. and was there poolside to assist.

Plus all the coaches in Leeds who helped get the routines ready and coached the figures. We are certainly improving as a club in figures, and that's getting us the medals. So thanks to Fiona, Ian, Susan, Sian, Deanne, Jeanne and Gemma.

Also, thanks go to

Linda, Jo, Jannine, Bill, Clare, Marie Claire, Sue, Jane for helping do the Car Boot and donating to it to raise funds which subsidised the travel.

And not forgetting Mark who organised the Kit.

SILVER for Free Team

We think it's Silver for the free team, but how close,

Medisa 68.96
City of Leeds 68.83

Medusa from Hungary swam an excellent routine to a James Bond theme. City of Leeds followed and had to be perfect to get anywhere close as the Medusa routine was superb. It's also used by their B-team as well. To come this close was superb and certainly made an impression on the crowd. The hilights were well received by the Stockholm crowd, and a few have approached us telling us how well they swam.

This is still unofficial as we don't know if that includes a penalty as Medusa only had 6 competitors.

Medal ceremony in 1 hour so I guess we shall know more then.

Swedish Open

While waiting for the teams, just a point about the running of the competition. There are always different ways of running competitions, none are the same and all have their good points.

One good thing at this competition that I've never seen before is that while the swimmer is swimming to the exit after swimming, a snippet of the next piece is played, literally just 2-3 seconds.

This simple thing is such a good idea. It takes away the possibility of the music controller playing the wrong CD, proves the CD can play, so avoiding having the swimmer ready in position and having to restart in the event of music failure, and puts the audience in the mood for the next piece. It also allows the swimmer to signal to the sound desk to up the music volume if it's a quiet piece.

Team are swimming at 11:20 CET, so I'll try get an update before leaving for the airport.

SILVER in the duet

Again it's not confirmed but we have Rosie and Jess in Silver position after their swim.

The scores announced on the scoreboard have them in second place, but we are not sure if that includes figures. With a 3rd and 5th in figures though we are fairly confident that they have a podium finish.

Well done to both of them in a great swim which was executed perfectly.

So far the clubs medal haul is,

1 GOLD
1 SILVER
1 BRONZE

Free Team to come where I've heard it's neck and neck with the figure scores for the GOLD with club Medusa, so all hinges on the swim.

GOLD for Rosie in solo event.

Again it's unofficial, but from the scores given out on the scoreboard, we have Rosie in top spot.

A fantastic day so far for everyone in figures, the team and for Rosie on her two medals when confirmed.

Still not got the figure results yet, probably get them after the last event. That's the last event CoL feature in today.

Tomorrow it's free team and duet.

Go Leeds !!!!!

Combo Team result

This routine gets better....in a hotly contested combo team event the CoL swam last and in an energetic and fast paced routine finished 4th out of 7 teams from Sweden, Denmark, Hungary and Switzerland. it really is coming together and bodes well for Gloucester.

This is an unofficial result by the way.

The goodie bag by the way had collapsable drinks bottle and cosmetic kit in - I'm told.

Opening Ceremony

We've just had the opening ceremony.

Not sure why it follows figures, but the competitors were led out led out following a flag bearer of the Swedish Flag. There are about 12 teams from across Europe here. The girls had brought a Yorkshire Rose flag which they proudly held while we all stood for the National Anthem of Sweden.

They have all been given a goodie bag, from here I have no idea what's in them. I'll find out.

Swedish Medal Success

It's BRONZE for Rosie Barrington in the figures. Well done Rosie !!!

Our first medal, and it puts her in top slot for the solo. Jessica Ranson finished 5th, so the duet is well placed too. Well done to both of you.

And....we have 4 swimmers in the top 10 !!!!!

Let me confirm results first but this is fantasic news and bodes well for the free team. The combo team does not rely on figure scores.

Do not leave this page .... I'll confirm figure scores as soon as I can, and post Solo and Combo team result.

Swedish Open

This venue is fantastic.

The pool is massive and the whole place has an open feel to it. There is seating around 3 sides of the pool so plenty of seating ... And the possibility of us starting a Mexican wave. There are only 3 spectating, but we will give it a go. It's also very cool. Just outside is the open air pool where the Swedish Men's team swam in the documentary on Men's Synchro a while back. We also have a male competitor in the girls age group.

At the moment figures have just finished, and warmups are taking place.

Drapped from the diving platforms the organisers have hung the 5 flags from the competing nations, namely

Sweden
Denmark
Switzerland
Hungary
Great Britain

It's a proud moment for the club so please give them all your support via text FB or twitter.

In the age group the girls are entered in there are 29 swimmers. swimming for the City of Leeds are;

3. Rachel Lee
9. Sian Boyle
10. Angelique Richardson
12. Evie Pedley
13. Rosie Barrington
15. Alice Dewhirst
16. Abigail Linley
19. Megan Knight
26. Jessica Ranson
28. Eloise Bray
